Switching to Wordpress
Sometimes it is hard for a programmer to admit that they don’t need
to write something custom for themselves from scratch, that they can
in fact take advantage of the hard work of others and make it work.
With that in mind I decided to stop trying to use the CMS
(Content Management System) I was on again / off again
writing to run this site and try Wordpress.
As I’m not a traditional blogger, and don’t follow the ins and outs of the
blogger world, I hadn’t kept up with the various solutions out there to
make things easier. I had looked a couple of times and decided that it
wasn’t worth it- or it couldn’t do what I wanted.
Then Dan Benjamin switched hivelogic over to Wordpress and was trying out MarsEdit for adding new entries. I thought it was worth a look and quickly decided it was the way to go. Super simple to install and maintain, and it only took me a couple of hours to hack the index page to match my existing look and feel.
Hopefully this will increase the number of entries. I’ll also be able to open up pages to have people post comments in the future, and I’ll also have a search capability.
Sadly, I’ve fallen behind on several important photo moments like:
- Shot more Suspensions images
- Purchased a 5 Megapixel Digital Elph camera
- Had a great meeting with Stephen Shore on the 14th of December
and others.
There are still a few things to be done. The Collections pages need to take advantage of wordpress in some way- currently the still point to the old pages in the navbar which is broken. Sometime over the next few days I’ll fix this.
