This is my first generation 5gb iPod with the back off and the battery
removed revealing the hard drive beneath. I bought this at the Apple
store in Cambridge, MA in December of 2001.

Unfortunately over the past 4 years the original battery had worn
down until it felt like it was always needing to be recharged. I found
a replacement battery online that claims to offer 78% more capacity
than the original iPod battery, with perhaps 15 or more hours of play
time.

back in business. I have a soft spot for this original design with the
spin wheel that actually turns.
