Packing the books

Photograph of stacked boxes of books that I've packed.

I have a little packing-to-move ritual. I always pack my books first. Book packing is an easy way to ease into the whole packing experience. They handily fit into the boxes without resorting to padding or handling odd shapes. As you move from smaller to larger books, you become more efficient at placing just the right number of items in a box without wasting space—a lesson that comes in handy when you start packing the more difficult shelves of miscellaneous items.

An added benefit to packing all of the books at once is the sense of accomplishment, “Well, that’s done !”. It is also easier to live for a week or two with the books packed, as opposed to packing all of the kitchen items first and then being forced to eat out until after moving day.

I packed all of the books yesterday
