a whole new bag

I purchased a back-to-school treat for myself today. Went to Jack Spade in SoHo and fell for this Bridle Leather Prussian Blue Field Bag they had on sale for 25% off (I guess blue wasn’t that popular). I had been wanting a nice italian leather bag for quite some time, just hadn’t found the right one.

The strap does enable it to be worn across the back so I can ride my bicycle and wear it (important). Over time the leather will soften and take on more character.

The interior is just as sturdy as the exterior and has a nice feel to it.
This comes as a replacement for my Tiger Bag that has served me well over the years. I custom ordered the Tiger Bag in 1991 from Courier Ware
. They had a small store between Harvard and Central squares in Cambridge, MA. They let you pick the size and choose how many exterior and interior pockets it would have and for a little extra you could have a fabric added to the flap. Looking through the large pile of fabric it didn’t take me very long to pick this orange furry tiger fabric. It is looking a little rough these days (15 years later !).
This bag has been a real workhorse over the years. I’ve been able to pack so much into its spacious interior, always impressed with what would comfortable fit in there. It has been a courier bag while I was riding my bike all around Boston, travelled to Europe and Iceland, and held view cameras + lenses + negative holders. One night, having been stranded by my motorcyle in Cambridge, I carried the battery home for charging. Even though I had placed the battery in a plastic bag some acid spilled and ate a couple of holes in the interior lining (but not the exterior).

I’m not retiring the Tiger Bag completely, I still plan on using it to carry photo equipment and to use it when
the large capacity is needed.
